A Senator for Kildare South has welcomed the government's expansion of free contraception to women aged 32 to 35.

Fianna Fáil Senator Fiona O'Loughlin has welcomed confirmation by her party colleague, Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly, that the free contraception scheme has been expanded to include women aged 32 to 35.

This means that all women aged 17 to 35 inclusive, are now covered under the scheme.

The service covers the cost of consultations with GPs, family planning, student health and primary care centres, and prescriptions for the wide range of contraceptive options available on the Health Service Executive (HSE) Re-Imbursement List.

Commenting on the expansion, Senator O'Loughlin said: "I’m delighted to see the free contraception scheme has been expanded to include women aged 32 to 35 years old.

"The scheme has been a great success so far and it’s really positive to see this further expansion."

She continued: "The goal remains to provide free contraception for women of all ages and this is a further step on that path."

"Fianna Fáil are championing women’s health in government and will continue to remove financial barriers to women’s healthcare," Senator O'Loughlin added.
