Urgent progress sought for proposed North Kildare business campus

The topic was discussed at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which as held last week.

Kildare County Council (KCC) was asked to provide an update on the funding application for the provision of a business campus in Kilcock.

The question was raised by Fine Gael councillor Tim Durkan at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place on Friday, July 5 last.

In response to his query, KCC said via its report at the meeting: "Pobal is still evaluating the application; they have sought some technical clarifications which KCC has responded to."

"The council is awaiting the final decision from Pobal," KCC added.

Cllr Durkan said that he noted the report, and added: "The project has snowballed, particularly during the (recent) local elections."

He added that he is aware of 'a list of nearly 120 businesses' looking to set up shop in the proposed campus.

"I hope to see this progress as soon as possible," Cllr Durkan added.

PREVIOUS DISCUSSION

The last time an update of the proposed campus was raised by two Cllrs in the MD was back in October of 2023.

Cllr Durkan, who was the Cathaoirleach of the MD at the time, as well as Fianna Fáil Cllr Paul Ward both put forward a motion to KCC requesting an update on the provision of the campus.

Their motions were seconded by Social Democrats Cllr Aidan Farrelly.

The meeting was also attended by Jacqui McNabb, Head of Economic Development and Enterprise in the Local Enterprise Office at KCC.
