Kildare court: Man claims wife is trying to ‘damage’ his relationship with his child

A man who appeared before a substitute Naas District Court judge told her that his partner is trying to 'damage' his relationship with one of his children.

The man appeared before Judge Nicola Andrews on Thursday, July 11 last, during an in-camera (in private) court session, in which he applied for both an interim protection order and an interim safety order against his partner.

He said that while he is still married to the woman, he will be seeking a separation soon.

The man explained that the woman 'is trying to damage' the relationship between him and one of his children.

"She has told them that I am mentally ill, which is untrue," he said: "I also believe that she is having an affair with her boss."

The man continued by describing one incident he referred to as being 'particularly disturbing.'

He said: "One night, at around 11pm, she burst into my bedroom and left the door wide open, with my child directly behind her… I expect that she was trying to catch me in a private or compromising moment, in the view of my child."

The man further alleged that, one time when he came in from work, she kicked him in what he referred to as an 'unprovoked' attack.

"She has continued to say negative things about me to my child, which I find so harmful," he said: "Whatever is going on with us, I don’t see why she has to bring them [the man’s child] into this."

After hearing the man’s testimony, Judge Andrews granted him an interim protection order, and directed for gardaí to serve the order on his partner within 48 hours.

She also issued an interim safety order for the man.

Both of these orders will remain in place until the case resumes for hearing at a later date.
