Kildare gardaí seized a vehicle after a driver was caught turning away from a checkpoint at speed.

According to An Garda Síochána, officers from the Naas Roads Policing Unit (RPU) spotted the driver turning and pursued the vehicle.

The vehicle was stopped a short distance away.

Gardaí discovered the driver was an unaccompanied Learner Permit holder.

The driver was then issued with a fine of €280 and two penalty points.

Gardaí were praised on Facebook following the incident, with one social media user commenting, "Job well done on this chancer."

Another wrote, "People still seem to struggle with the fact that they cannot drive a car until they hold a full licence."

Another commented, "Oh dear. A bad habit before they even have a licence."
