One of Kym's pieces of artwork
What’s The Occasion? is an engaging solo exhibition by Kildare artist Kym Tracey. This exhibition showcases a collection of original paintings, drawings and sculptures, inspired by celebrations, occasions and key moments in time — some of which hold a personal narrative to the artist.
Kym’s artworks are contemporary and nostalgic all at once. Initially taking shape through collage, Kym uses photo-transfer techniques to create unique and personable compositions.
Drawing from these collages, she then creates original works in her unique painterly style.
“By portraying the act of an occasion, from parties to more traditional events, my aim is to shed a contemporary light on simple interactions. And to invite viewers to celebrate youth, tradition and connection,” said Kym.
Visitors to the exhibition can expect a feast of colour, a fresh take on memory through real and imagined moments in time.
Kym Tracey is supported by Kildare County Council Arts Service and Riverbank Arts Centre’s ‘Emerging Visual Artist Bursary Award’ which she was awarded in 2023.
The official opening takes place on Friday 6 September, 7pm. All welcome.
This exhibition will be displayed at the McKenna Gallery at the Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge from Friday, September 6 to Saturday, October 26. It will be open from Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5pm, and 10am to 1pm on Saturday.
Admission is free. Kym will host a Mixed Media Workshop for adults on Friday 25 October.
