Additional waiting shelters sought for Train Station in County Kildare

Additional waiting shelters are sought for Newbridge Train Station by the town's Mayor.

Fine Gael councillor, Mayor Peggy O'Dwyer, explained: "Having recently travelled to Galway by train, I observed pre-assembled
products at Portarlington Train Station that are designed to offer protection from the elements in extreme heat and harsh weather conditions.

''The lack of sheltering facilities at Newbridge Train Station had been highlighted to me by Newbridge Active Retirement Association, who recently completed a survey of this facility.

She continued: "I visited the station recently with another member of Newbridge Disability Access Group and found that Platform 1 and 3 have no waiting shelter area; there is only a small seating area in the busy ticket office and turnstile scanner area.

"Once the ticket office is closed to the public in the evening's there is no waiting shelter area on this side.

"Platform 2 has very limited seating and indeed could also do with some."

Mayor O'Dwyer also noted that with Newbridge becoming part of the Short Hop Zone, this station will become busier.

She continued: "I'm disappointed with the delay in the redesign of the car park which had been requested by Newbridge Disability Access Group, but I will continue to advocate to get these promised works completed."

"Additional shelters and seating would make a huge difference to commuters, especially disabled, frail or parents with children," Mayor O'Dwyer concluded.
