Brendan's Running Club members
Naas-based Brendan’s Running Club, founded by local man Brendan Loughlin in 2012, is set to embark on an ambitious 48-hour continuous run around Naas town to raise funds for Tiglin, a nonprofit charity known locally for its association with the Jigginstown Manor transitional housing for young adults.
The event will kick off at 4pm on Friday, August 23, and will conclude two days later at 4 pm on Sunday.
The run will start and finish at Jam Music Company, creating a continuous loop around the town. Each club member will run a 4 kms route, passing the baton to the next runner to ensure non-stop movement throughout the 48 hours.
BRC is dedicated to fostering a friendly and all-inclusive environment for running enthusiasts. The club not only challenges its members physically but also emphasises the importance of community and charitable efforts.
This year’s fundraiser is particularly poignant for the club as it honours the memory of Peter “Blue” Sheridan, a former member who tragically passed away. Sheridan was a dedicated social worker at Tiglin’s rehabilitation centre for men, and his legacy continues to inspire the club’s charitable efforts.
Last year the club raised over €8,000 for Tiglin by participating in the Dublin Marathon. “Most people I mention Tiglin to don’t know what they do; the more people know, the better,” said Brendan “The overnight run also raises awareness for those who are staying out sleeping overnight.”
Aubrey McCarthy, Chairman of Tiglin and a Naas native, expressed his gratitude for the club’s dedication: “I want to thank the club for their commitment to raise funds for our work by doing this incredible 48-hour run. I hope that everyone does well, especially those doing the anti-social hours, and many thanks to Brendan for putting this together. Support them if you can.”
The community is being encouraged to support the event, whether by cheering on the runners, donating, or spreading the word about Tiglin’s vital work.
