The club will be showing the much lauded animated film “Kensuke’s Kingdom” based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo
For over 10 years now the Athy Film Club has been an integral part of the town’s social and cultural scene.
Covering a variety of genres from around the globe, the carefully curated programme aims to bring a blend of new and award-winning, national and international cinema to its local audience.
“Most of these films rarely make it to commercial movie theatres and to show them in our town, through the Film Cub, is a
real privilege” says Claudia Reeves, the club’s current Chairperson.
The new Autumn/Winter season programme will be unveiled at a special launch night in the Athy Community College on Wednesday September 11th at 7pm, followed by the screening of its first film of the season.
New members are welcome and can register on the night though tickets are always available at the door, at every screening.
Membership is strictly for over 18s but family events are also organised from time to time.
“We are extremely lucky to have access to such a perfect auditorium for our screenings, thanks to the ongoing support of Mr. Richard Daly, Principal of the Athy Community College” says Claudia.
“Our season runs from September to June in tandem with the school’s calendar but we do organise some extra events when possible, usually free events, as an added bonus to members and to entice newcomers!”
The screening on Culture Night, which is taking place nationwide on Friday the 20th September, is to be one such event. The club will be showing the much lauded animated film “Kensuke’s Kingdom” based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, which is
expected to be a great hit with young and old alike. It features the voice talents of Cillian Murphy, Ken Watanabe, Aaron MacGregor and Raffey Cassidy, among others. As in previous similar events, a registration system will be in place for the occasion to make sure no one is turned away at the door!
Simply text 087 799 18 72 to pre-book your seats.
Every film club has a particular dynamic and this one simply offers a very relaxed and friendly setting where people can encounter ideas, experiences and emotions - through film. No hardwork involved, just show up, pick up a complimentary glass of wine or hot beverage and enjoy the show!
