Kildare set to host variety of events to celebrate Culture Night 2024

Kildare is set to host a series of unique events across the county to showcase its culture and creativity as Culture Night 2024 returns on Friday, September 20.

From comedy shows, musical and poetry performances, art exhibitions, to upcycling workshops, everyone's interests are covered this Culture Night. Communities all around Kildare will host a wide variety of events on Friday, some of which will be available to adults only, while many others welcome all ages.

Supported by the Arts Council and Local Authorities, all events organised across the country to celebrate Culture Night will be available to the public free of charge.

Some events planned in Kildare:

Fans of Leonard Cohen may be interested in checking out 'At War With Mercy.' This musical and dramatic exploration of war, peace, and mercy is inspired by the songs and writings of the late Leonard Cohen and developed by the writers John MacKenna and Angela Keogh. The show is said to be "a life-affirming journey that echoes with hope, warmth, redemption and peace." For those interested, it will take place in Athy Library at 7:00pm. Booking is required and over 18s only.

For lovers of traditional music, Kilteel/Eadestown Comhaltas will be celebrating the night with music, Sean Nós singing and dancing. These talented local artists will be performing at Newbridge Library at 6:30pm. No booking is required for this event and all ages are welcome.

Upcycling clothes has soared in popularity recently with the focus on sustainability, however the skill has been around for a long time. This Culture Night, you can try your hand at some upcycling with "A Stitch in Time – Upcycling Workshop." This workshop will introduce you to a range of skills and tips to get the most out of your old clothes. No previous experience in sewing is necessary to take this class and anyone attending is advised to bring along 3 to 5 pieces of pre-loved items or textiles. The workshop will take place at Aideen Cross Design Studio in Rathangan at 5:30pm. Booking is necessary to take part and all ages are invited to join in.

If you're looking for some laughs this Culture Night, then you should swing by Mór Laughs Comedy, Kildare's only regular comedy venue. The venue will be showcasing a line-up of local talent to crack some jokes on the night. A double headliner features Danny Ryan, the award winning comedian who has performed at the likes of Electric Picnic, and Edwin Sammon from RTÉ's Bridget and Eamon. This event is strictly 18 plus and no booking is required.

An open night of events will also be hosted at Kildare Town Community Garden. This promises to be a lively evening of music and fun. Why not explore the beautiful community garden while taking part in the range of creative workshops organised with local artists and community groups? Some activities do require booking while some such as the botanical printing workshops, do not. The fun kicks off at 6:00pm and everyone is welcome to join.

There's many, many more events to take part in this Friday across Kildare to celebrate Culture Night. For further information on what events are taking place in Kildare and how to book, then visit Culture Night 2024's website.
