A Carlow man has been placed on a peace bond by a Naas District Court judge following an incident which occurred at Newbridge Train Station.
Judge Desmond Zaidan made the decision to place the bond on Niall Davis, with an address listed as College Green, County Carlow, when he presided over the 32-year-old's case on Thursday, September 12 last.
Gardaí alleged that on August 18, 2022, Mr Davis was involved in an incident in which he kicked a woman in the chest during an argument on a train at Newbridge Train Station.
Garda Sergeant David Hanrahan also told the court that the case was previously adjourned to allow time for a victim impact statement, but this was not available onn the latest court date (the reason why was not disclosed before the court).
DEFENCE
Although Mr Davis submitted a guilty plea to the offence, his defending solicitor, Cairbre Finan, told the judge that there was 'a number of people involved in the incident.'
He also said that his client insisted that 'it was a push, not a kick.'
Mr Finan added that his client has no previous convictions, and although he previously had addiction issues, he is now in recovery.
Mr Davis also told Judge Zaidan that he is undertaking an educational course.
Mr Finan further said: "He is apologetic over what happened. It appears to be out of character, he seems like a decent-enough man."
After consideration, Judge Zaidan placed Mr Davis on a peace bond for 12-months.
