A County Meath resident was convicted for a drug-driving offence, in addition to being charged with a simple drug possession offence.

The case was heard before Judge Desmond Zaidan at Naas District Court on Thursday, September 12 last.

Gardaí told the judge that Daniils Orlovs, with an address listed as An Slígh Mór, Main Street, Enfield, was drove while under the influence of cocaine at Jigginstown, Newbridge Road, Naas, on July 23, 2021.

The 24-year-old also had no valid car insurance on this date.

Mr Orlovs was also prosecuted for being in possession of €40 worth of heroin at the Moorefield Road in County Kildare on August 22, 2022.

Gardaí also told the judge that while Mr Orlovs had no previous convictions at the time of the offence, he had accumulated four post-convictions, one of which was for driving with no insurance.

Judge Zaidan decided to fine Mr Orlovs €750 for the no insurance offence, and have him three months to pay this fine.

He also fined Mr Orlovs a further €750 for the drug-driving offence (Judge Zaidan also gave him three months to pay this fine) and imposed a two-year driving disqualification on him.

The judge said he would apply the Probation Act for the simple possession offence.
