Cllr Naoise Ó Cearúil
There is a growing demand for special education places in County Kildare schools.
This is because there is a greater diagnosis of conditions that can hinder the ability of child to learn, Cllr Naoise Ó Cearúil told a Kildare County Council meeting.
He said parents are finding it difficult to get access to special schools or special needs assistants.
“More special education places are needed,” he said, adding that measures taken must take account of the “anticipated population growth.”
KCC official Marian Higgins said that the population of County Kildare has doubled within 30 years and there is a significant youth population in the county.
She said these factors are increasing demand and information about the needs will be sought from the Department of Education.
