New €10m building being planned at Maynooth University

A new €10m sports science building is being planned at Maynooth University.
A planning application was submitted to Kildare County Council by Maynooth University.
for a development at this c. 0.38ha site, on lands located the Phoenix Sports and Restaurant building.
The proposed development is comprised of the partial demolition of 350 sqm of the south-eastern section of the existing Phoenix sports centre and restaurant building.
This is to facilitate the construction of a new three-storey sports science extension (3,427sqm).
The proposed facility will be comprised of lobby and reception areas, a general gym, a sports hall, research and teaching labs and administrative offices.
Teaching, student, and staff facilities are included.
The development also includes removal of an existing cycle storage area and the provision of a new covered bike storage.
The designs include public lighting, signage and necessary excavation works.
