The possibility of constructing a dog park in Newbridge was raised at a recent Kildare County Council (KCC) meeting.
Social Democrats councillor Chris Pender enquired about the dog park at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting held on Wednesday, September 18 last.
His motion read as follows: "That the council conducts a feasibility study to explore the potential for establishing a dedicated dog park in the Newbridge area.
"This study should include an assessment of suitable locations, estimated costs, and community interest, with the aim of providing a safe and accessible space for dog owners and their pets."
His motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil Cllr Suzanne Doyle.
RESPONSE
KCC told Cllr Pender: "A works programme for the Parks Section was set out at the start of the year.
"This remains our focus and there is no scope within it to carry out this work."
KCC continued: "Any progression of this beyond the current year would have to consider existing commitments to projects and progressing them and what the members want prioritised.
"Additionally, the MD has The Curragh as a large area of open space located centrally with the MD, which provides a suitable safe access for dog owners, and this may negate the need for any feasibility study," KCC concluded.
Cllr Pender responded by saying that while 'there are individuals who cannot get to The Curragh easily', he added that he understood the constraints in relation to KCC's resources and funding.
