The Electricity Costs Emergency Measures Domestic Accounts Bill is expected to clear all stages in the Dáil by this evening, October 9 2024.
The aim is to have the first energy credit of €125 available to consumers after November 1 when their utility bill falls.
A second credit of the same amount will be available from January 1 next year.

Social Democrats Deputy Cian O'Callaghan has called the government's approach to tackling the cost of living crisis as "spin over substance" and "tinkering around the edges rather than bringing real change."
The Taoiseach Simon Harris told the Dáil ahead of today's bill that the credits were needed due to the high costs of living and said: "the coalition is listening to the people and delivering."
