Construction work on the Royal Canal Greenway between Louisa Bridge Leixlip and Maynooth Harbour is due to be completed by June 2025. This project was raised by Cllr Joe Neville at a Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District meeting.

The project includes a  towpath/greenway from Maynooth Harbour to the Straffan Road, Maynooth as well as a section from Straffan Road, Maynooth to Pike Bridge and this section of Greenway should be reopened in December 2024.

According to Kildare County Council engineer Donal Hodgins upgrade works are ongoing between Pike Bridge and Deey Bridge. Traffic management plans and a road works speed limit reduction (from 80km/h to 50 km/h) will be periodically in place.

A section of the towpath/greenway between Pike Bridge and Deey Bridge will close for upgrade works in the coming weeks and a piece from Deey Bridge to Louisa Bridge remains closed for works but will reopen in November 2024, but some works may remain outstanding for a number of weeks beyond that.
