A Fine Gael councillor has called for a designated heritage space with a “permanent military display” to be included in the design for the proposed new Newbridge Library Development.
Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer is to raise her motion at the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting on Wednesday, December 18.
In her motion, Cllr O'Dwyer called for a designated heritage space “with a permanent military display to acknowledge the link to the barracks at this end of Newbridge included in the design for the proposed new Newbridge Library Development.”
Vehicle collisions in Thomastown
Meanwhile, a Fianna Fáil councillor has called on the council to produce a report on the frequency of vehicle collisions at a location in Thomastown.
Cllr Noel Heavey's motion, to be raised at Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District on Wednesday December 18, asked: “That the council produces a report on the frequency of vehicle collisions at the junction of Caragh-Newbridge Road with Rathangan-Naas Road in Thomastown and what it might consider as appropriate to remediate this busy junction.”
In a separate motion, Cllr Heavey asked that the council brings forward proposals to make safer the roundabout “at the back of Newbridge College ie to make clear to all motorists the right of way at this busy roundabout.”
Litter bins
Separately, a Fianna Fáil councillor has called on Kildare County Council to reinstate litter bins in Rathangan.
Cllr Brian O'Loughlin's motion is to be raised at a meeting of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District on Wednesday December 18.
Cllr O'Loughlin's motion asked: “That the council reinstates the litter bins that were removed from along the river (known locally as the pound) and at the canal footbridge leading to the playground and Tannery Park, Rathangan.”
In a separate motion, Cllr O'Loughlin called on the council to install rumble strips outside the entrance of Ellistown GAA.
His motion noted: “This is a busy spot along a busy road as the club grounds also contain a creche
and the community playground.”
Installation of a roundabout proposed
A county councillor has asked Kildare County Council to examine the feasibility of installing a roundabout on the R445 “to enhance the safety of motorists at that location.”
Cllr Pat Balfe is to raise his motion - “That the council examines the feasibility of a roundabout on the R445 at the exit of Junction 14 of the M7 between Kildare and Monasterevin to enhance the safety of motorists at that location” at a meeting of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District on Wednesday December 18 December next.
Assessment of Kildare trees called for by councillor
A Fine Gael councillor has called on Kildare County Council to provide a costing for an independent tree arborist to carry out an assessment of trees in the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District.
According to Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer, this would be for the purpose of “compiling a working list for our parks team to work from and members to budget for, the tender to include but not limited to all housing estates taking in charge, public spaces, special landscape areas and unique areas where houses are listed on the Record of Protected Structures (RPS) records.”
The motion is to be raised at the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting on Wednesday, December 18 2024.
