Winner of Best Dressed at Naas Racecourse borrowed something from her husband to complete her look

Despite wintry weather conditions, racing fans turned out in style for a thrilling day of action at Naas Racecourse on Sunday, 5th January.

Following an early-morning inspection, the green light was given for the event to proceed, and both the racing and fashion exceeded expectations.

Off the track, the Best Dressed Competition, sponsored by Frasers of Whitewater Shopping Centre and Lawlor’s of Naas Town Centre Hotel, added glamour and excitement to the day.

The winner was Cara Meehan, who wowed the judges with her sophisticated and stylish outfit.

Cara’s ensemble featured a Holland Cooper jacket, Karen Millen waistcoat, and trousers from Sandro, purchased just the day before at Kildare Village.

She completed her look with a tie borrowed from her husband, adding a unique and personal touch. The day was particularly special for Cara as she celebrated her 40th birthday in style.

The overall winner received a €2,000 Frasers gift card, alongside a luxurious two-night stay at Lawlor’s of Naas Town Centre Hotel, dinner at Vi’s Restaurant, and Tipsy Afternoon Tea. 

Shileen McConville and Raymond Gilbourne also impressed judges and took the runner-up spots. 

Both received €100 Frasers gift cards and Afternoon Tea at Lawlor’s Hotel.

Fashion judges Mandy Maher and Sarah McDermott were impressed by Cara’s polished and creative look. Mandy Maher remarked, “Cara’s outfit was a perfect blend of elegance and individuality, and made her the standout winner.” Sarah McDermott added, “The effort and style displayed today were exceptional, and it was wonderful to see so many embrace the occasion despite the weather.”

The feature race, the Grade 1 Lawlor’s of Naas Novice Hurdle, saw a dominant performance from The Yellow Clay, who kept his perfect record over hurdles in tack. Trained by Gordon Elliott, the talented gelding took command turning for home.

Under a confident ride by Sam Ewing, The Yellow Clay powered away from the field, securing victory by an impressive eight lengths.

The card also introduced the new Grade 2 Racing Post Novice Chase which saw Ile Atlantique put in an impressive round of jumping to take the honours adding to a treble on the card for Champion trainer Willie Mullins.
