Judge Desmond Zaidan noted that the people involved “want nothing to do with the gardaí.”

The court was told that the woman has a baby, who she was breastfeeding and the child was now being minded by her maternal grandmother.

The judge noted that emergency services attended the scene and efforts were made to ensure that the injured party was not disfigured.

The court also heard that a bail application is before the High Court.

Judge Zaidan said he would agree to an adjournment to allow the prosecution time to progress the case.

He adjourned the matter to allow for directions to be secured from the Director of Public Prosecutions. He told the woman that if she secures bail in the meantime she will have to attend the next court hearing in person.
