A consultant has been appointed to prepare a Preliminary Business Case for the remaining section of the Newbridge Southern Orbital Ring Road, including the second Liffey Bridge in Newbridge, Kildare County Council has confirmed.

The council was responding to a motion tabled by Cllr Noel Heavey (FF) at the January meeting of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District.

In his motion, Cllr Heavey asked: 'that the council provides information on all outstanding issues for construction and opening of the second Liffey Bridge in Newbridge, to include proposed schedule for submission of Business Plan, putting finance in place, tendering and all other issues relevant to construction and opening of the bridge.'

The Preliminary Business Case is to be submitted to the Department of Transport in due course following internal review for consideration as part of a funding application for the delivery of the infrastructure.

The council noted that there are a number of other tasks to be completed thereafter, 'however it is not possible to provide a timeline for these tasks at the present time.'

The report concluded: 'Kildare County Council will continue to keep the elected members updated as and when additional information is available.'
