Plans for a massive 569 homes on the outskirts of Newbridge have been turned down by An Coimisiún Pleanála.
Aston Limited wanted the go ahead to demolish existing structures at lands surrounding and including the dwellings of ‘Greatconnell’ and ‘Valencia Lodge’, Great Connell.
The aim was to make way for 569 new residential units (325 houses and 244 no. apartments), and a creche. The application went straight to an Coimisúin Pleanála through the strategic development procedure, which allows large projects to bypass county councils due to their scale.

On March 30, the comisiún said significant changes to the site layout plan and the loss of a significant number of dwellings would be required to comply with the land zonings contained within the County Development Plan. This is due to a new variation, which was adopted at a special meeting of Kildare County Council on February 23 of this year.
"The Commission was not satisfied that these amendments could be made by condition as the layout of the proposed development does not allow for the simple omission of areas/ blocks from the site. Revising the layout through condition could
also adversely impact on the layout and result in a poor level of residential amenity for future occupants of the scheme," it said.
