Decision due soon on Conor McGregor's Kildare mansion expansion plans

Kildare County Council to rule on MMA fighter's expansion proposals for Straffan home
A decision on the future expansion of Conor McGregor's Kildare home is due on May 28.
The controversial MMA fighter wants to demolish his garage, porch, and roof canopy at his mansion at The Paddocks, Castledillon, Straffan to make way for further expansion.
He wants to build a part single, part storey and a half extension to the front, side and rear of the existing dwelling including the addition of two new gables, a new porch, new first floor dormer windows and a first-floor balcony to the front and the rear.
The plans also include a new tennis court, and a partially sunk basement under the tennis court to contain a car-park, gym and ancillary rooms.
Other works include landscaping, and all necessary works to facilitate the development. He submitted the plans to Kildare County Council for consideration on May 7. The planning department is due to issue it's decision on May 28.
Planning permission exists for the expansion of the house, but this will expire in a year's time. In the planning documents, the applicant stresses the present application, which simply seeks permission to carry out and complete the development after this expiry date, is prompted by the fact that whilst the applicant's obligations require his presence abroad, and he would prefer to be on hand to personally deal with any on-site issues which may arise.
The architects said; "As a year or so remains before this parent permission withers, it is still possible for the property
owner to complete this permitted development and although we forecast that substantial works are likely to have been completed before this expiry date, the present application seeks a greater degree of certainty, in order that plans can be made to complete the development in 2027 (and possibly into the year 2028), if the need arises."
