Specialist training to be provided for new councillors who meet next week

The first-time councillors elected to Kildare Co Council will meet next week and specialist training will be organised for them.

A total of 18 of the 40 councillors are newcomers to local politics. 

The new faces include Cllr Ciara Galvin in Celbridge who had a baby in February and admitted she went from "couch to Council in 3 months". 

The Annual Meeting of the County Council will be held in the council chamber, Áras Chill Dara in Naas on Friday. 

Candidates will be present from Local Electoral Areas in Athy, Clane, Kildare, Leixlip, Maynooth, Celbridge, Newbridge, Naas, 

One of the items on the Agenda is to organise "Induction Training" for the new councillors.

Other business will be to elect a Cathaoirleach and a Leas-Chathaoirleach for the coming year.

Councillors will also fix dates for the first meetings of the five Municipal Districts.

Councillors will also be appointed to dozens of Committees and other public bodies. 

They include Strategic Policy Committees, the Audit Committee, the Finance
Committee, Co Kildare Twinning Committee, the Local Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee, the Local
Rural Water Monitoring Committee, Coiste na Gaeilge, Decade of Commemoration Committee, Twinning
Liaison Committee.

Other Bodies include the Association of Irish Local Government, Athy Heritage Company CLG, Athy Community Enterprise Company,  County Joint Policing Committee, County Kildare Failte, County Kildare LEADER Partnership,  Drehid Community Liaison Committee and the Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly.

  • Local Community Development Committee
  • Monread Community Centre
  • South Western Regional Drugs and Alcohol Taskforce
