Gardaí investigating the fatal hit and run road traffic collision between a HGV and a male pedestrian that occurred on the Swords Road (N1), at the Collins Avenue Junction in Dublin at approximately 12:20am have made an arrest.
A man (50s) was arrested yesterday [Friday] evening and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4, Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Ballymun Garda Station.
The HGV articulated tractor unit has also been recovered.
A family liaison officer has been appointed.
The deceased man has been named as Gerard Whyte, from Ballymun, aged 21 years.
Gardai had earlier today released footage of the incident along with an image of the vehicle that was involved.
The victim was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
