Appeals for people to rescue hens around Co Kildare this weekend

A Co Kildare animal sanctuary is urgently appealing for people to come to Naas, Kilcullen, Athy and BallymoreEustace this weekend so hens can be saved from slaughter.

Susan Anderson of Little Hills Animal Sanctuary said: "Our two foster homes are completely full and we really really need to make space there before Saturday morning, in order to have space for any hens let down this Saturday and Sunday."

People are being urged to  bring adequate sturdy cardboard boxes with lots of air-holes, or preferably cat carriers, one per two hens.

A statement from Little Hills Animal Sanctuary said: "We will not give hens out without suitable travelling containers. We never give ‘free to good home’. The  adoption fee is €6 per hen."

On Saturday, hen rescues will be taking place in Kilcullen, Athy and Naas while on Sunday, June 16, rescues will be taking place in BallymoreEustace.

Bookings can only be taken by Private Message Little Hills Animal Rescue & Sanctuary Facebook page.
