Concerns are being voiced at the prospect that VAT refunds on tourist spend could be limited to purchases in excess of €175.
This will rule out refunds for over 80% of tourist transactions.
Richard Guiney CEO of Dublin City Centre’s Business Improvement District which represents 2,500 city centre enterprises said:"It is difficult to see the merit in this proposal. Tourist spend kept many businesses alive during the recession and with retailers feeling the pressure from online trade, many city centre businesses may well come to rely on our visitors again in the future."
