18 fatal fires in 2018 included house blaze in Co Kildare

A fatal fire in Co Kildare was one of 18 fatalities from fires attended by Fire Brigades in 2018, according figures published by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government. 

It was the lowest number of fire-related deaths for 19 years. 

The statistics show the Co Kildare death was a woman aged over 65 on June 24, 2018 at 11.30am in the morning.

An incident report by Kildare Fire Service said the fire started in the bedroom of the private house in a rural location.
No cause was listed and the report also says there was no smoke alarm at the location.

The most deaths - 5 - took place in Dublin.

There were three fatalities in Cork as well as one in Wicklow, Kilkenny, Cavan, Clare, Limerick, iWexford, Donegal, Longford and Mayo.
