The scene at the church car park before the protest started
A group of Kill residents objecting to a plan to accommodate up to 350 Ukrainian refugees staged another motorised protest this afternoon.
The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth is planning to house the refugees at a former equestrian centre, which was previously the subject of a residential development proposal, on the outskirts of Kill village.
Residents drove their cars from the village through neighbouring Johnstown on the local route adjacent to N7 and on to Naas and back on Sunday last - and repeated the protest again today.
Some 50 vehicles took part in the demonstration which set out from the local Catholic parish church.
The cars carried banners bearing messages like “Government needs to take correct action !. Working away without a contract. Someone is getting help from their Government Friends. Fat cats getting fatter. Not fair. Follow the money (accompanied by a fat cat image)” and “Kill says no.”
Described by the organisers as a “peaceful slow drive” the line of cars was led by a garda car and a second garda vehicle travelled behind the peaceful demonstration as the participants sounded their horns along the nearly 12 mile long round trip.
