A Fine Gael councillor has highlighted extensive illegal dumping at a site just outside Newbridge.

Cllr Peggy O' Dwyer sent in the photographs to the Leinster Leader today, which shows the mess left at the area located beside the Lidl Distribution Centre.

She told the Leader: "This year, this route has witnessed multiple illegal encampments which has resulted in both property damage and the area not been a safe place to walk.

"The residents in the area have had to put up with the destruction from both the rubbish and damage to water hydrants resulting in low water pressure.

"This can also lead to a lack of supply in the event of a fire if the emergency services need to get access to water."

Cllr O' Dwyer said that while Irish Water have responded quickly, and despite the work of local Gardaí, the situation 'remains a constant problem.'

She further said that the land is in private ownership, and the road has not been taken in charge by Kildare County Council.

"From today's representation, I can confirm that the site will be cleaned up as soon as possible by the Industrial Development Agency, who are very aware of the damage this encampment is causing when it arrives," Cllr O' Dwyer added.
