Sinn Féin is due to host an event to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of a mass execution of Anti-Treaty rebels.

The monument would commemorate the Grey Abbey Martyrs, who were executed by Pro-Treaty soldiers on December 19, 1922.

It was the single biggest execution in the Irish Civil War.

The event will take place on Sunday, December 18, at the Heritage Centre in the Market Square of Kildare town (R51 T189).

It will start at 12.30pm and will feature party leader Mary-Lou McDonald TD as the main speaker.

One of the men who was killed, Patrick O' Connor, is the late great-uncle of Ms McDonald.
