Kildare County Council's Aras Chill Dara headquarters
A number of traffic calming motions were heard at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which was held on Wednesday, December 14 last.
Fine Gael councillor Tracey O’ Dwyer asked Kildare County Council (KCC) to install appropriate traffic calming measures on the Athgarvan Road to Two Mile House within the 50kmph zone, 'as one approaches the village, similar to the measures that are already in place on the Naas approach road to Two Mile House.'
In response, KCC noted: "A Technical Assessment is required for any traffic calming measures to be installed.
"The Municipal District office agree to include this location to undergo a Technical Assessment, the Municipal District Office will revert when completed."
MONASTEREVIN
Sinn Féin Cllr also asked KCC to install traffic lights at the junctions of Drogheda Street and Dublin Street, Monasterevin at the Nags Head, in order to improve traffic flow at peak times.
KCC told Cllr Connolly that the Sustainable Transport Section, as part of the Monasterevin Town Active Travel Project, is seeking to install of traffic signals at this location to 'facilitate pedestrians, in addition to other vulnerable road users, including cyclists.'
However, when Cllr Connolly asked KCC to install traffic lights at the junction of Cowpasture, Monasterevin — specifically, where it joins the R445 to improve traffic flow at peak times — KCC replied that there are no proposals to signalise this junction as part of the preliminary design at present.
KILCULLEN
Lastly, Cllr O' Dwyer asked KCC to confirm if it plans to install traffic calming measures on the approach to the Logstown Road, Kilcullen from the Carnalway side.
KCC responded to Cllr O' Dwyer by saying that there are no plans to do so in this area at present.
