"No one should be alone at any time of year, but I'm well aware of how difficult this time of year can be for some."

These were the poignant words made in a statement by Social Democrats councillor Chris Pender on his official Facebook profile.

Cllr Pender has said that for Christmas Day 2022, he will be keeping his office open 'for anyone that wants to pop in for a chat and a coffee/tea... I'll even throw in some biscuits.'

The Newbridge-based politician explained: "No one should be alone at any time of year but I'm well aware of how difficult this time of year can be for some, so whether your trying to avoid the family for an hour or two or just want to pop in for a chat please do.

"I have a few morning drops to do but the office will be open from 11am until late."

He added: "Folks if you're are alone or lonely, if you just want a chat/cup of tea, or if you just need a break from the family before you lose your mind with them, one of the benefits of having an office is that I can say: 'please pop in.'"

Cllr Pender's office is located at Unit 1, Liffey House, Eyre Street, Newbridge, County Kildare (W12 PD3).
