The death has occurred of the legendary horse trainer, Kevin Prendergast, this morning, Friday 20 June, 2025.

A trainer of ten Classic winners, Kevin Prendergast was just a couple of weeks short of his 93rd birthday.

Son of Paddy 'Darkie' Prendergast, Kevin Prendergast's career covered over six decades in a star-studded career that saw him saddle numerous winners, his first back in 1972 when Pidget won the Irish 1,000 Gns.

He won the 2,000 Gns in Newmarket in 1977, one of only three Irish trainers to win that race at that time.

In all Kevin Prendergast trained no less than 2,000 winners, the last being when Chris Hayes rode Copie Conforme,  at Bellewstown in August last year.
