Huge Garda and Revenue checkpoint in Kildare sees almost 400 drivers breathalyzed this morning
13:00 Sunday 13th of August 2017

A huge checkpoint carried out by Gardaí, the Road Safety Authority and Revenue has seen more almost 400 drivers breathalyzed this morning.

The checkpoint was carried out on the M7 motorway in a joint operation between the three authorities, and they tested 378 different motorists for drink driving. They also seized four vehicles during the operation and issued 21 fines.

10 heavy goods vehicles were found to have defects on them, and Gardaí from Kildare made two arrests at the checkpoint.

Elsewhere, traffic on the M7 northbound is extremely heavy due to an earlier collision near J12 Newbridge. The incident has been cleared but traffic travelling from Cork and Waterford to the match in Croke Park this afternoon has added to delays.

It's bumper to bumper all the way from J12 Newbridge to J9 Naas.
