Husband of tragic Michaela Harte coming to Newbridge

The husband of the late Rose of Tralee contestant Michaela Harte is coming to Newbridge.

Former Down GAA footballer John McAreavey and tragic Michaela (27) were on their honeymoon on the holiday island of Mauritius in January 2011 when she was found murdered in their hotel room.

Michaela was a former contestant in the Rose of Tralee contest and was the daughter of Tyrone GAA manager Mickey Harte.

Mr McAreavey (35) later helped set up the Michaela Foundation in his late wife's memory which encourages schoolchildren to reach their potential.

Mr McAreavey will now be taking part in a novena in St Conleth's Parish Church in Newbridge on June 6 at 7.30pm.

Other participants include former Newbridge priest Fr Paddy Byrne and faith development worker Amalee Meehan.
