A young Indian man who has been studying in Ireland for eight months is considering leaving the country after he was beaten by two thugs at his home in Kildare.

22-year-old Alok Thomas Kakkoor was left traumatised following the assault at his residence in Celbridge on Tuesday in the middle of the afternoon, and he is now considering leaving Ireland.

The incident happened at around 2.55pm on Tuesday when two men entered the house through the kitchen window, before assaulting Mr Kakkoor when he confronted them.

"I was getting ready upstairs before work, it was around 2.55pm and I heard a sound downstairs," he is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror.

"I went down to see what was happening and I saw two young lads crawling into the kitchen through the window.

"I was frightened so I went back through the main door but one saw me and came behind me very quickly and hit me with a cricket bat.

"It was so sudden and I just asked him, 'What do you want?' "He just said, 'money' and beat me with the bat. The other guy came and hit with me with a knife or something, I'm not sure what it was but I know it was sharp. I needed to get stitches on my right wrist and my right forearm."

The IBAT college student says that he enjoyed life up until this incident, but he is now very shaken up.

"Before this Ireland was very good and I was enjoying it."
