A Judge in Naas Court has ordered a Midlands mother to hand over the passport for her teenage daughter. She has been banned from sending her daughter on a trip to a Eastern European country on her own.
The application objecting to sending the daughter to an event abroad, on her own, came from the teenager's father.
In court, the mother outlined how the ticket for the trip was booked and paid for, but the upcoming trip could not go ahead without the father's consent.
However, Judge Mary Walsh objected to a young teenager flying on a plane on her own to spend time with strangers.
The Judge ordered that if the daughter is to go on the trip, then her mother must accompany her.
The court heard how the father could not accompany his daughter due to work committments.
Judge Walsh said: "It would be very difficult for a young girl to be on her own, in a strange country, with adults who are strangers on her own."
