Kildare County Council are set to hold a special meeting on Monday September 24 to discuss the presentations given by presidential candidates ahead of next month's election.
The council will consider endorsing either Gavin Duffy, Sarah Louise Mulligan, Sean Gallagher or to abstain from backing any candidate whatsoever ahead of the election.
Duffy and Gallagher have already received the backing of four county councils, so any endorsement given by Kildare County Council will make no difference. Councillor Morgan McCabe and Cllr Murty Aspell have both given their backing to Duffy, while Gallagher has received the backing of Cllr Carmel Kelly.
Cllr Brendan Caldwell is seeking to endorse Mulligan, who has not received the backing of any municipal councils so far.
Cllr Joanne Pender has proposed a motion for the council to abstain from backing any candidate in the election campaign.
