Kids woken up 'terrified' by parked car set on fire in Newbridge

Residents were awoken by loud explosions as a parked car was set alight outside a home in their Newbridge estate at 1.30am today.

The shocking incident happened in St Dominick's Park off Canning Place. Gardai are investigating.

The burned-out car has been removed but the fire has left ugly charred debris on the footpath and street outside a house.

One concerned resident told KildareNow on Facebook:

"A car was been set on fire last night. Explosions woke up residents at 1am. Kids were terrified."

A video of the car on fire was recorded and has been forwarded to Gardai who are investigating.

The resident added:

"It was terrifying and scary to wake up to explosions.

The cars are set on fire or broken into by people who have nothing better to do."

UPDATE

KildareNow understands that the car wasn't abandoned but was awaiting repairs. The vehicle was parked up at that location in St Dominick's Park because the driver's own home was undergoing construction work and parking wasn't available.
