Kildare Cllr is calling for recycled materials to be used in cycle lanes around Naas

Appeals are being made for using recycled materials for building cycle lanes in the Naas area.

Independent Cllr Sorcha O'Neill is appealing for Kildare County Council to investigate the possibility of using recycled materials for building cycle lanes such as the Dublin and Kilcullen roads in Naas.

The world’s first recycled plastic bicycle paths – regarded as a key stage in the development of revolutionary new plastic roads – are to be tested in the Netherlands, starting in September.

Cllr Sorcha O'Neill said:"One of my motions in the Naas Council meeting tomorrow is a request that the council use recycled plastics materials to construct our new approach road footpaths and bicycle lanes.Wouldn't it be great if our town were the first in Ireland to address the issue of plastic materials and bottles that are clogging up our oceans and landfills?."
