A convoy of caravans which were illegally parked on a public green close to a housing estate in Leixlip have now vacated the area after action was taken by Kildare County Council in conjunction with An Garda Siochana.
It is understood that at least 25 caravans had parked near the Lough na Mona estate in Leixlip on Monday 8 April, and over several days Kildare County Council received complaints from local residents about the parking of the caravans.
One local resident told KildareNow: "I to see a convoy of at least 25 caravans just sitting there on the green, apparently they entered the public land on Monday, April 8. It's awful to see right on your doorstep, and it's awful for the people living in the caravans because they have no access to sanitation or anything. We reported the caravans to Kildare County Council for them to take action."
Another resident said that they were 'dismayed' and 'shocked' to see the caravans taking up room on the green close to the estate.
It is understood that the caravans vacated the green area yesterday Sunday, April 14.
In a statement issued to KildareNow today, Kildare County Council confirmed that it was aware of the matter and that the area has now been vacated.
They said: "Kildare County Council was notified of a number of caravans parked on council land Monday 8 April. The council served a 48 hour notice on April 8 and the following day served a 24 hour notice. This council in taking all action available to them, liaised with An Garda Siochana and the area was vacated Sunday 14 April."
