A man went to the home of his ex-partner and kicked down a door, it was claimed at Naas District Court.

The man appeared in court following an application by gardaí to revoke his bail.

Garda Colm Shelly said the man was abusive and threatening to his ex-partner’s family and some of them locked themselves in a back bedroom. He added that her mother was present along with another daughter.

The court was told that the man was told to stay out of a named area and not to contact his ex-partner, as well as to reside at an address in Dublin.

It was further claimed that when he contacted his ex-partner he said that if he went to prison he would “get her when he gets out.”

It was also claimed he said he would “kill himself and take someone with him.”

The garda claimed that the man was not at the address he said he would be at on August 15 or August 16.

The ex-partner said he threatened to kill himself if she did not drop the case and he said he would take someone with him, which she took to mean he would himself and her.

The man denied saying he would kill himself and he said contact was initiated only after a friend said he should contact her.

He said he was at the address he indicated he would be residing at.

“It’s my residence, I have a room there,” he said, adding it was possible he was not in his room when the check was made.

Judge Miriam Walsh told the defendant he must abide by all bail conditions and not treat them like a menu from which he could choose certain items and overlook others.

In a separate application the woman was granted a protection order.
