Kildare Gardai catch 22 motorists on mobile phones

The Kildare Garda Division's Roads Policing Unit stopped 22 motorists for using their mobile phone on Monday and Tuesday of this week.

The initiative was part of National Mobile Phone Operation.

The 22 motorists were issued with Penalty Notices of €60 and 3 penalty points.

A total of 21 other offences were also detected which will incur various Fines and Penalty points.

Three vehicle were also seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act for no insurance and court appearances will follow.

National Slowdown Day tomorrow 

Gardai are also warning they will be out in force across Kildare from 7am this Friday as part of a national 24-hour crackdown on speeding.

The objective of National Slow Down Day is to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on roads across the country.

Gardai will also be issuing advice to motorists and reminding drivers of the dangers of driving at excess speed.

The 24-hour operation will consist of high visibility speed enforcement in speed enforcement zones.
