A Kildare musician is planning on performing an all-day busking session in his hometown to raise money funds for a suicide prevention charity following the death of his brother.
Niall Dunne, from Athy, is a talented singer songwriter, and he plans to busk for the entire day in the south Kildare town to honour the memory of his late brother Ray, and to raise money for the charity Aware.
Ray took his own life in February 2016, leaving a massive void in the Dunne family. He had previously performed at Glastonbury and had released several albums before he died at the age of 34. Now Niall, who is 35, will perform songs from his brother's final album alongside his fiancee in Emily Square next month.
“I will sing songs from his last album ‘Amidst Bright Shadows’ and we have no end of bands lined up," he told the Daily Mirror.
“This is my way of dealing with it. It’s bittersweet for all of us but if it helps just one family not to go through what we went through it will have been worth it.”
The Remembering Ray buskathon will take place in Athy’s Emily Square on Friday February 9 from 11am to 9pm.
