Troops representing the 51st Infantry Group commemorated their fallen comrades at the memorial for Irish Peacekeepers in Tibnin, South Lebanon yesterday.
Laying a wreath as part of the moving ceremony was Sgt Martin Tynan whose father Cpl Martin Tynan Snr from Co Kildare tragically died in Lebanon in December 1992.
Cpl Tynan Snr was a popular member of the Defence Forces and was based in The Curragh Camp.
In 2009 the Irish Memorial Garden in Tibnin (below) was twinned with St Mary's Garden of Remembrance in Thurles in order to commemorate the 47 Irish soldiers that have lost their lives in the service of peace with the United Nations in South Lebanon.
Irish peacekeepers are currently serving in a different area of operations but still make the trip once a month to Tibnin to lay a wreath and commemorate the fallen.
