Contracts for the redevelopment of St Conleth's Park, Newbridge, were signed this evening at The Osprey Hotel, Naas.
Co. Board Chairman, Mick Gorman signed the contract on behalf of Kildare Co. Board, with the Elliott Group, Gary Kavanagh signing on behalf of the Group.
The entire project will cost in the region of €16.5 million made up of €5m from the infrastructure fund; €3.6m from Croke Park and Leinster Council; IIP €4m; Co Board €2 million (cash) with Bank of Ireland providing a loan of 2.3million.
The pitch will be extended to the maximum length of 145m and the width 85m; fully floodlit; with a capacity of 15,000 with 3,000 seats.
As mentioned work will get underway the day after the final AFL game in a few weeks time; that game v Meath on March 26.
It is hoped that games will resume at St Conleth's Park with the senior club football and hurling county finals of 2024; with the county action getting under way in 2025.
No decision has been made where the county games will be played just yet but chairman Gorman said games will be played "outside of the county."
On another issue the Co Chairman said that 'Naming Rights' for St Conleth's Park are well advanced and an announcement on that will be made in a matter of weeks.
