A Kildare school teacher has been released from jail in China following her arrest last week.

The woman, who is in her 20s, was arrested almost two weeks ago in Beijing due to alleged issues with their visas.

She was arrested alongside her friend, who is from Offaly, and nine others following an investigation by authorities into the legality of the school they were working in.

Both women are on working visas and teaching in schools in the area, and they are believed to have taken a job in an unlicensed school unknowingly. They were arrested on Saturday May 5, but were released from prison this week.

The Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland got involved in the case to provide consular assistance to the two women.
