Minister James Lawless TD recently held a meeting with the Minister for Transport

Local Fianna Fáil Minister James Lawless TD held what he described as a “positive” meeting with Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien TD regarding the progression of Kildare’s DART+ South West, with encouraging assurances given that the project is on track following the granting of full planning permission in 2024.

Minister Lawless said: “Our discussions focused on the wider DART+ programme and the sequencing of projects, with confirmation that DART+ South West remains a key priority within Ireland’s public transport strategy. While DART+ West is currently ahead in the delivery queue and expected to move first to construction, this is due to its critical role in delivering the new depot and city centre capacity upgrades required to support the expanded DART network.

“Importantly, the joint procurement and tendering strategy now being developed across the DART+ programme will directly benefit DART+ South West. Framework contracts covering electrification, track upgrades, civil engineering and enabling works are being structured in a way that will streamline and accelerate delivery of the South West line once funding is allocated.”

Minister Lawless concluded: “I welcomed the reassurance that significant preparatory work is already progressing behind the scenes and that DART+ South West remains central to Government plans for improving rail connectivity, increasing public transport capacity and supporting sustainable growth across the region.”
