Cavan native Ben Folkman will complete a series of 32 gigs in 32 counties that he has undertaken with friends over the last few days since starting out in Cootehill, Co. Cavan on Father's Day.
The initiative 'Jammin for Jarrah', in aid of Ben's severely disabled 5 year old son, has attracted the hearts of the nation with support coming from across the country and beyond. Supporters have included Oscar winner Glen Hansard who has tweeted his support.
Jarrah Folkman is a happy, bright and loving five year old boy from Cootehill, Co. Cavan who was born in 2011 with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, CVI Blindness and Refractory Epilepsy.
On Saturday they complete the tour with busking in Maynooth, Navan and Carrickmacross followed by a finale concert in Jarrah's home town of Cootehill, Co. Cavan. All details at www.32gigs.com and on Facebook.
It is an extremely challenging condition for the family to deal with, but now that Jarrah is getting older it’s becoming intensely more of a challenge. As jarrah grows his parents will struggle to safely lift him into the car seats, the bath and up the stairs – everyday tasks that most parents take for granted. Having the correct equipment is crucial for Jarrah, it would provide him with comfort and opportunities to live a full life.
Jarrah's father Ben, through his love and passion for music launched ‘Jammin for Jarrah’ as the primary fundraiser for Jarrah’s cause.
It has been a busking bonzana of singsongs, guitars, and even some cowboy hats. Local musicians in every county have joined the lads and offered support, donations, and free dinners and accomodation.
"It has been very emotional" says Ben ,who is originally from Australia. "I am truly bowled over the the spirit, warmth and generousity of people. People are so kind and this really means the world to us. It is all for Jarrah so he can have a decent life and the funds really will make a difference."
