500 homes need to be built in a year in Kildare - just to keep up with demand

There were 3450 applicants on the housing list in 2023 with 2456 described as Irish

Some 500 houses a year have to be built in County Kildare just to keep pace with demand.

That’s according to Cllr Bill Clear who pointed out that the housing list is growing by 500 new applicants per annum and he asked if the homes are being provided in the right areas.

A Kildare County Council meeting was told there were 3,450 applicants on the KCC housing list in 2023, up from 3,009 in 2022.

Most of these (2,456) are Irish. Some 681 are described as EEA, which refers to the EU countries along with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, while 284 are described as non-EEA and 29 are referred to as the UK.
